Content Management Systems

Website management made easy.

So what is it?

Content Management Systems are web-based programs that makes it easy to edit and update content on a website without doing any programming. You see, before the CMS, if you wanted to edit a page, change an image, or create a new post, you would have to download your HTML files, edit them and upload the new media and the edited files back into your server. Gruesome. A Content Management System is a platform that gives you an easy to understand visual back-end interface enabling you can change or add content and media like a champion without spending months learning web development.

Why do YOU need it?

You are a business owner, and not a programmer. You want to make sure your content is up to date. Perhaps you want to delegate the task of running the website to someone on your staff. Or perhaps you will delegate it to a digital media firm, but you don’t want to pay for tons of billable hours. A CMS expedites all basic tasks so your secretary or digital agency can update your website in minutes.

How should you use it?

There are a number of options out there. Without giving too much detail we’re going to go over the our preferred choice, used my the majority of our clients; WordPress. This CMS has been around since 2003. Initially conceived as a blogging platform, it quickly gained traction as a fast, easy to use, and feature rich platform enabling much more than just blogging. WordPress powers almost a third of websites today, making it by far the most popular CMS in the world. It’s simple, yet it can be expanded and built upon to handle anything you throw its way. It has tens of thousands of extensions and plugins and vast community support.

Word to the wise, an independent study once showed that the most popular WordPress login credentials were “admin” for both username and password. Don’t do that. Generate difficult passwords that do not contain words and feature characters, letters and symbols and WordPress will be as secure as any other system out there.
